Matt Cavers

Hi — I’m Matt. I’m a student therapist, working under the supervision of Willam Dow.

I see individual adults, couples, and older youth (15+). I support people who are learning to live their lives in a way that fits, wherever they are in this journey. I welcome clients of all gender identities and sexualities.

My areas of focus include:

Life transitions — finding the ground under our feet when we are in flux.

Relationships — seeking security and selfhood in friendships, families, or romantic relationships.

Identity and meaning — making sense of who we are now and who we are becoming.

Masculinity and men’s issues — building a more inclusive, affirming view of ourselves within the gender spectrum.

How I work:

In our work together, my role is to be a safe and steady other, someone who will sit alongside you with curiosity and compassion as you explore. I’ll try to see things as you see them, and try to understand how they make sense for you.

If you’re curious about working with me, I’d love to chat.

I’m a cisgender man, a dad, and a partner—and I seek to live each of these identities as authentically as I can, even when it’s at odds with how mainstream society understands them.

I’ve followed an indirect path through life, and while I wasn’t always quite sure what my next step would be, I’m grateful now for having had the chance to move through this world in a spirit of exploration and curiosity.

Get to Know Me

  • I spent my twenties exploring, reading, and thinking on topics related to nature and society, earning a master’s degree in human geography and studying toward a doctorate. I love approaching the world as a scholar—with curiosity and humility.

  • II followed a dream and spent a bit more than a decade working as a brewer and a cider maker. For years, I couldn’t believe my good fortune—I shared the work with brilliant, creative people, and learned the joys and challenges of a physically creative job.
